Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the active compound present in the seed of Azadirachta indica using ethanolic solvents. Fresh samples of the seeds of Azadirachta indica were obtained from Technical College Runjin Sambo. Each of the collected plant samples was separately processed into fine powder and stored in a polythene bag for further analyses. GC-MS analysis was performed at the CASLAC of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, on an Agilant Technologies Auto-system GCMS-QP2010 PLUS Shimadzu, Japan System operating in the E.I mode at 70 eV, equipped with a split/splitless injector (250 oC). The results revealed the presence of some bioactive compounds present in the ethanolic extract of the seed of A. indica. Fifty five compounds have been identified with different concentrations at varying retention time. 2,2,4,4,6,6,8,8-octamethyl-1,3,5,7,2,4,6,8-tetraoxatetrasiloxane with retention time of 8.303 recorded the highest concentration of (10.40%) and Dimethyl (trimethylsilyloxy) silyl]oxy-dimethyl-trimethylsilyloxysilane had the least concentration with (0.08%).
